Top 5 Places to Buy Local & Support Brisbane’s Small Businesses
Now that you’re ready to shop small and keep it local, where do you start??
It’s pretty well-known that Brisbane loves a good market, and these days they’re popping up everywhere! An abundance of makers, creators and designers are working their butts off and eagerly waiting for you to pick out their pretty awesome products on your Saturday and/or Sunday stroll through the markets.
With heaps of options around, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best places to go visit this weekend;
The West End Markets are located in the iconic Davies Park in West End, and are held every Saturday from 6am-2pm. Every week over 150 unique stallholders gather to provide produce, food, fashion, gifts and more. Brace yourself for a great morning with some live music and activities all under a beautiful canopy of Moreton Bay Figs. We love this market for its range of creative stalls and the many smiles and community feel. Hopefully we’ll be seeing you there, don’t forget to stop and say hi at the Allthingsfi stall.
If you’re free on Sunday, why not head down to the Botanic Gardens. Walking in at 8am you’ll firstly smell the warming scent of fresh coffee, couple this with some relaxing music and a hot breakfast and you have an unbeatable morning. Stay a little longer to check out the fantastic range of art and fashion and lifestyle brands, including yours truly. We hope you love it as much as we do!
Conveniently, just next door to the Riverside Market is the QUT Infusion Markets, held at the same time from 8am-3pm. This extension allows visitors to check out some of the old architecture, as well as support student stallholders and Indigenous performers. This small market is passionate about encouraging cultural performances and creations, hence why we believe it’s the perfect stop-in, post visiting the Riverside Markets.
4. Northey Street Organic Market
If you love a fresh basket of goodies just like the image above, we have the perfect market for you! Brisbane’s ONLY organic Farmer’s Market is located on Northey Street, New Farm, held every Sunday from 6-11. Visiting this market, just know you’ll be provided with only the freshest and most organic range of produce, meat, dairy and even some amazing Organic Chocolate imported all the way from Ecuador (Yaku Latin Goods). Your money will go directly to an organic farmer or ethical brand…basically retail therapy without the guilt!
If you’ve never treated yourself by heading into Eat Street Markets, you’re missing out! Especially if you’re a foodie! Located alongside the Brisbane River on a disused historic wharf, Eat Street has created an amazing atmosphere. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night some of the BEST micro restaurants, bars and eclectic shops gather to make your night a good one. Satisfy your taste buds with food from all over the world, and get groovy with some sweet live music.
